Published: 14 Oct 2025

All the organizations are committed to signing chartered of diversity and inclusion which is actually the promotion of diversity and equity in an organization. Every organization has self-assessment tool (SAT) to assess inclusion process , equity and other success parameters of every type of organization whether public, non-profit organization, government sector etc.

Importance Of DAT and Essential indicators of Implication.

There are several types of assessment tools, each having a particular indicator, which may not be qapplicable to certain organizations, which will mark it as “ not-applicable”. A Diversity based assessment tool is discussed in this article.

Diversity based assessment tools involve those “policies, strategic planning, and procedures that are facilitative to people of diverse backgrounds communicating and working together as a team. These strategic planning’s are good initiative
to acknowledge, celebrate, prioritize, and being susceptible to these differences within an organization by altering the culture of the organization (Golini, Kalchschmidt, & Landoni, 2015).

8 Major Domains of DAT (Diversity Based Assessment Tool) in Healthcare.

Diversity based assessment tool has 8 domains and scale ranged from 1-5 (1-No action
taken, 2- Minimal action taken, 3- Partial action taken 4-Substantial action
taken 5-Full action taken, Not Applicable N/A.

  • 1st domain is about planning and organization it describes the strategic planning of organization along with specific indicators that determine the level of achievement, if filled honestly.
  • 2nd domain inculcates indicators about the
organization’s culture like how it takes feedback from the employees and the
people visiting the health care organization, how welcoming is the environment on broader aspects and what are major the regulatory functions for minimizing
    the discomfort.
  • 3rd domain illustrates the employees’ education and
training, whether it is up to date, appropriate, or need transformation, it demands evidence that how the organization fulfils this criteria. Then
comes the domain of human resources, the demographic information, along with the
performance is discussed.it covers patients’ and employees’ accommodation
demands. Then comes Community Capacity Building, Service Planning &
Development, patient Engagement, Service Provision(Dali & Blanchette, 2017).
  • DAT(Diversity based assessment tool) is selected because it is the comprehensive tool in comparison to other and states the organizational behaviour on macrolevel, it is too general and highlights accountability, for example, if an issueis reported that it should be assessed until the policies are developed to fill thegap in the area of improvement.

The DAT encourages candidates from diverse and underrepresented groups and help them develop to become the better leaders intheir workplace.. Training and career development programs give these candidates the feeling of being valued with in organization and they willbuckle up to come up with something new and challenging.

The above strategies depending upon the overall assessment plan, the health care organization determine its strengths and weaknesses and, in turn, develop policies and actionplan for achieving the organizational goals and objectives (Jian & Fairhurst, 2019).

Approaching towards the leadership, it is generally described as a trait, but in a broader sense it’s more or less an ability, which is sometimes innate (trait), but it can be acquired too. Since the beginning of the time, there have been many theories proposed, defining leadership.

Researchers in the early era used to define it as an approach comprising of behaviour, relational, and situational leadership, but emerging theories on leadership state it in different way i.e. adaptive leadership where the leadership qualities are adapted with the passage of time.

Authentic leadership is all about the authenticity of the leader and is enjoying great interest of the researchers. Then comes spiritual leadership and
servant leadership, which revolves around selflessness and serving the humanity. There are many school of thoughts which describe leadership (Van Dierendonck, Stam, Boersma, de Windt, & Alkema, 2014).

Leadership is actually described as behavior of individual when it is directing the group activities towards the shared goal. The environment of the health care is complex and dynamic. It faces the problems and unique experiences in all the sectors.

Effective leadership is needed so that changes could drive and lead at all levels of health system to reform in health care organization. Leadership in all the health care center is spread across management. Servant as leadership in health care set up is described as it is an innate fact that it begins with the natural feelings in which one serves and to serve first, one should aspires to lead. The leader first and the servant first are the examples.

Best Model of Healthcare to Practice in DAT

The best model for the health care organization leadership is servant based because it focuses on strength of team. Servant leadership take place when leaders do serve the sufferings and their fellow workers.

Physician leadership is emerging as it is considered as vital component in transformation the nation’s health care organization. Few physicians have been introduced and it have a literature on leadership and organization. Health care industry has been continued to the dynamic health care industry. Servant leadership is actually to serves others.  They actively listens their followers and indeed provides feedback.

Areas of Improvement in DAT associating Servant Based Leadership

The servant leadership depicts that those who are serving the people of diverse cultures encompass the policy makers and convince
them to play their essential role in development and implementation of programs for monitoring organizational growth. The areas of improvement in servant based leadership is, self-grooming, better communication skills, strong convincing
power to convince policy makers and ultimately selflessness(van Dierendonck
& Patterson, 2015).

Conclusion

In nutshell, Leaders can be made, there
are number of ordinary people, who became extra-ordinary with the passage of time, and we can be the person we want to with courage and confidence.Leadership is a research area it revolves around practice, sufferings, exploring, meanwhile it demands selflessness, intimacy, strong beliefs, and revolutionary ideas.
